May the Lord bless you in abundance...

There comes a time when actions count more than words but also you may want to count your blessings.  When things go well in your life it is equally important to recognise that the Lord is blessing you and that your cup is full. When you feel that you are experiencing trials and tribulations then you may need to think hard and ask the Lord to help you get things right. Hopefully, your situation can improve quickly, whatever your downfall is, it may pick up again in a matter of months. However, you may not be off the hook so easily. You may have forgotten that the Lord is also your Heavenly father, Abba, and therefore entitled to train you in order to equip you for your calling.

Of course at the time of the trials, it does not feel anything like that.  I remember that last year from September to Christmas  I only worked for 2 weeks  even though I regularly checked the papers and rang my agents   The Lord showed me that I’d done something wrong earlier that year when I finished a contract abruptly for another one.  I had to humble myself and put things right. I recall that at the time I’d found a whole pile of reasons why I was entitled to end things abruptly, still I was in the wrong.  Later one my agent found me a great job, unexpectedly better in all areas..

Puzzled by the intricacies of blogging!

A few days ago, I decided to change the template for this blog and I thought that it would be a short process. However, as you may have realised, it seems to take me ages. First, the navigation bar disappeared and I could not find any answers on how to put it back. Eventually while I was skimming through comments of other bloggers, some helpful soul told us to delete the 'don't appear' implicit htlm code and thankfully I could manage that! In this new template, I was attracted by the slideshow, however the format of my pictures is different!. Last night, I thought that I'd crack it, I found this website called www. wowslider.com, downloaded it. So this is where I am now..If you are  IT-minded and you can help, let me know.

It is a blessing to be on holidays! Saying that Steven is not on holidays yet and this week Cam is doing an internship, Imogen has been working in the tea-room. In spite of that, we have managed to spend quality time and see our friends. We are getting ready to go to France on Sunday, Valras plage precisely. Steven tells me that yesterday the temperature there was 38 degree Celsius so I should not forget to take sun cream lotions, a hat (I am the only one to need one!) and mosquito cream!

March for Jesus

This morning, in church, my hubby talked about the 'March for Jesus' in Brazil. Between 1 and 2 million Brazilian Christians coming from all over the country took to the streets of Sao Paulo. The above photo says it all: it was a complete success. They were singing to gospel music and though it was organised by evangelical groups, other denominations were there too. This march has been held since 1993. Well, I'd loved to see the same thing happening here in the UK. Wouldn't it be fantastic! What are your views on this? Have a blessed week. N.

Who edits your church bulletin?

I write the church bulletin each week. Last week by complete accident instead of putting in "Pastor Vill will be giving this weeks exciting messages" I wrote: "This week Pastor Vill will be giving this weeks exciting massages."

Another time I was supposed to write "Forgiveness can send you to hell" and I accidentally wrote: "Forgiveness will send you to hell."

Needless to say that now my work is checked before the bulletins are printed and passed out in church.

Not ashamed of the cross

Last week, I received three postcards to support Shirley. I will send them to David Cameron, the House of Lords and the House of Commons. I think that we should have total freedom to wear a cross if we wish to therefore I support Not ashamed of the cross, an initiative led by Christian Concern..for the benefit of church and nation.

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, the Almighty.He asks one of his new students to stand and…..
Prof: So you believe in God?
... Student: Absolutely, sir.
Prof: Is God good?
Student: Sure.
Prof: Is God all-powerful?
Student: Yes..
Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn’t. How is this God good then? Hmm? (Student is silent.)
Prof: You can’t answer, can you? Let’s start again, young fella. Is God good?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Is Satan good?
Student: No.
Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Prof: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student: Yes.
Prof: So who created evil?  (Student does not answer.)
Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son…Have you ever seen God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student: No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student: Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn’t exist.
What do you say to that, son?
Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student: And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student: No sir. There isn’t.
(The lecture the after becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat..But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it .
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)
Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?
Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light…..But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it’s called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can’t even explain a thought.. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor.Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)
Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher? (The class is in uproar.)
Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)
Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain,sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)
Prof: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.
Student: That is it sir… The link between man & God is FAITH . That is all that keeps things moving & alive.The student was none other than APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India.

It must have taken its author some time to write..This week, I have started a new timetable at work whereby I have wednesday afternoon off and I must say that it is an absolute bonus. Our Jubilee Mission

Our Jubilee Mission is imminent now. The tent is being installed as I write, I hear that the bacon is cooked and bacon butties distributed to the workers! along with a mug of tea of course.. Do come and hear a different speaker every night from the 14th to the 20th. Invite a friend and enjoy. 

Prayer Pointers for our Jubilee Mission

That the name of Jesus is honoured, the message of salvation and hope are clearly explained.
Praise God for who he is, what he has done and is going to do.
That people of no faith come to faith, that people of lost faith rediscover it, those with question and doubts surrounding faith see clearly and that people of faith are greatly encouraged and strengthened.
All the speakers
People who are invited to tell something of 'their story and journey of faith'.
Those involved in the after schools sessions.
All plans and preparations.
For fine weather as we hope to be using a marquees - this is now urgent in view of the current rain and poor conditions on the field.

Tempted to buy a new mobile?

Think again! Is your phone fuelling the conflict in Eastern Congo? The film Blood in the Mobile released last October exposes how minerals used in mobile-phone manufacture are tainted with blood and conflict. This is a wake-up call to all mobile phone owners about how raw materials are sourced and the human cost of “conflict minerals”.

FACTS
“Blood in the Mobile” is the story about how our phones are connected to illegal mining in Congo (DRC). Every time we communicate through our cell phones we are associated with the crimes in Congo.
Congo is a country of many natural resources like gold, diamonds, rubber, coltan and cassiterite. But instead of causing Congo wealth, these resources have ended up fuelling the bloodiest war since WWII. 5 million people have died, estimated 300.000 women have been raped.
The film focuses on the mineral cassiterite - a mineral used for producing tin, which is used for the production of all kinds of electronic devices - including mobile phones.
Director Frank Piasecki Poulsen visits a mine in Bisie. Bisie is one of the largest and most notorious illegal mines in the region. It happens frequently that some of the mineshafts collapse and miners are being buried alive.
Child labor, prostitution of under age girls and lack of rights and protection of miners are some of the conditions around the mining operations of cassiterite. The money from the minerals is financing the war in the region.

When I heard this worship song for the first time, I thought that it was so powerful as it contained the whole message of the Good News about Jesus. We praise our Father who is in heaven, we are part of His family, adopted sons and daughters. Why? We praise Him because He sent His only Son, Jesus through whom he revealed Himself. The apostle John talks about this. John 1: 1. And also. John 1:14. Jesus knows that He is going to die and tells his disciples who are not very impressed. Nobody wants to hear that your best friend, the one who has transformed their life personally, in their community and beyond, the one who healed so many, the one who talked with authority in front of various rabbi, the one who agreed that he was the Messiah:  Mark 14: 61-63 'But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”, the one whom they had waiting for as the prophets had announced for thousands years was going to die. Peter dared to contradict Jesus, in Mark 8  31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said....” Jesus who is sinless dies for us, sinners so that whoever believes in Him, can be reconciled with our Father and be blessed abundantly 2 Corinthians 9:7-9  and ultimately, when we die, we are saved from the wrath of our Father by his grace and live with him in a new creation, new Heaven and Earth...where there won't be any tears.

Fighting back against rising secularism

Last week, the Prime Minister held a private ‘Easter Reception’ at Downing Street, where he told a gathering of senior church leaders that the nation needed Christian values and also that he supported a "fight back" against rising secularism.

Mr Cameron told attendees: "I think there's something of a fight-back going on, and we should welcome that. The values of the Bible, the values of Christianity are the values that we need."

The transfiguration

The TRANSFIGURATION  Matthew 17:1-2  is mentioned in all 3 synoptic gospels
Where is it in the Gospel ?
1.Back cloth
· who do you say I am ? Peter declares Jesus as the Messiah
· Jesus speaks about his suffering, his death and resurrection
· Peter tries to stand in the way of God's plan and is rebuked by Jesus “ your thoughts don't come from God but man -if anyone wants to come with me he must forget self. Carry his cross and follow me.”
· Whoever wants to save is own life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for me and the gospel will save it.
· After the transfiguration group Jesus is faced by an unbelieving group- who want to use his healing powers but weren't worried about letting God into their lives. Jesus challenges this
 2.Jesus is preparing his disciples for his death and resurrection
 3.The transfiguration provides a foretaste of heaven
 4.The transfiguration is witnessed by figures from Heaven and earth thus ratifying the divinity of Jesus
 · Jesus takes his 3 closest disciples:Peter and the brothers -James and John (Peter- gets it wrong often but Jesus uses the frail and weak-you are Peter and on this rock will I build my church)
· Where to? A high mountain -like many other holiest of holy encounters it takes place on top of a mountain where they were alone
· The disciples see Jesus bathed in glory- they try to describe it -key message bright, dazzling light too bright Cloud covers them before God speaks
· In this encounter they meet Moses representing the Law and Elijah the prophets.
· Moses is himself given the 10 commandments on top of a high mountain and when he returned to the people he shone so brightly they had to shield themselves from the light
· Elijah has many encounters with God, learns to listen to him, often on mountain-tops- experiences a people that rejects his message time and time again- Elijah is himself swept into heaven
· Peter is described as speaking but really overwhelmed: he knows it is a very special encounter with God but doesn't know what is going on.
· We hear the voice of God as we did at the beginning of Jesus’s public life (Baptism)and also via angels at the end of his public life at his ascension.
· The voice of God says- listen to him
For us? It comes at a point just before lent starts: how do we travel on our own journey? Do we put our self first ? carry our cross whatever that may be? are we following Jesus ? We are ordered by no less than God himself to listen to him- Jesus
Where are we going? like the disciples, eternal life is our goal: we can not compromise on this
 How can we live lives that are attuned to God

To listen and hear how we should be : to let God be God in our lives (God of Surprises)
To be obedient to the will god
To do this we have opportunities to re-align our lives -lent presents us with such an opportunity
Have we got our priorities right ?
Do they need fine tuning?
Are there patterns in our lives that repeatedly trip us up?
How can we go forward in the strength of Christ
: we have the knowledge and reality of the resurrection and the support of the holy Spirit to guide and transform us: god selects us frail as we are to be his family: our weaknesses can be used by him as a strength if we allow Him to deal with our weaknesses.

Lord, pour out Your Spirit upon this nation. Bring unbelievers to a saving knowledge of Your Son, Jesus. Prosper us and rain your blessings upon us..It is your goodness that keeps us from getting what we do deserve.Thank You that Your eyes are on the righteous and your ears are open to our prayers (1 Peter 3:12). May your Love and peace so rise in our hearts that it becomes our greatest testimony of your goodness.

Your Grace, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Prince Philip and I are delighted to be with you today to pay tribute to the particular mission of Christianity and the general value of faith in this country.This gathering is a reminder of how much we owe the nine major religious traditions represented here. They are sources of a rich cultural heritage and have given rise to beautiful sacred objects and holy texts, as we have seen today.Yet these traditions are also contemporary families of faith. Our religions provide critical guidance for the way we live our lives, and for the way in which we treat each other. Many of the values and ideas we take for granted in this and other countries originate in the ancient wisdom of our traditions. Even the concept of a Jubilee is rooted in the Bible.
Here at Lambeth Palace we should remind ourselves of the significant position of the Church of England in our nation’s life. The concept of our established Church is occasionally misunderstood and, I believe, commonly under-appreciated. Its role is not to defend Anglicanism to the exclusion of other religions. Instead, the Church has a duty to protect the free practice of all faiths in this country. It certainly provides an identity and spiritual dimension for its own many adherents. But also, gently and assuredly, the Church of England has created an environment for other faith communities and indeed people of no faith to live freely. Woven into the fabric of this country, the Church has helped to build a better society – more and more in active co-operation for the common good with those of other faiths.

This occasion is thus an opportunity to reflect on the importance of faith in creating and sustaining communities all over the United Kingdom. Faith plays a key role in the identity of many millions of people, providing not only a system of belief but also a sense of belonging. It can act as a spur for social action. Indeed, religious groups have a proud track record of helping those in the greatest need, including the sick, the elderly, the lonely and the disadvantaged. They remind us of the responsibilities we have beyond ourselves...

The Queen’s comments will be welcomed by many Christians after a week where secularists have challenged the place of Christianity in the nation. The High Court passed a ruling on 10 February that it was “unlawful” for local town councils to begin their formal meetings with prayer, breaking from hundreds of years of tradition. On the same day, two Christian guesthouse owners, Peter and Hazelmary Bull, lost their appeal against last year’s ruling that they had discriminated unlawfully against a non-married same-sex couple by only allowing married couples to rent double rooms in their guesthouse. Yesterday, Baroness Warsi, chairman of the Conservative Party, said that British society was under threat from a rising tide of "militant secularisation" reminiscent of "totalitarian regimes."

The Love of the Spirit

For the past weeks, I have been reading The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit by Reuben Archer Torrey and I do recommend it.

I like very much Torrey's style as it is concise, to the point and very clear. 

I can think of no thought more humbling or more overwhelming than the thought that a person of Divine majesty and glory (the Holy Spirit)dwells in my heart and is ready to use even me.

What are the distinctive characteristics, or marks, of personality? Knowledge, feeling or emotion, and will. Any entity that thinks and feels and wills is a person. 

If we read 1 Corinthians 2: 10-11, we are taught that the Holy Spirit is a Being who knows the truth.


In 1 Corinthians 12:11, we read, “But all these are the work of one and
the same Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will.”
Here will is ascribed to the Spirit and we are taught that the Holy
Spirit is not a power that we get hold of and use according to our
will but a Person of sovereign majesty, who uses us according
to His will.
Further on, R. Torrey tells us more about the personality of the Holy Spirit

In Romans 15:30, Paul says “Now I urge you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me.” Here we have “love” ascribed to the

Holy Spirit. The reader would do well to stop and ponder those 

five words, “the love of the Spirit.” We dwell often upon the

love of God the Father. It is the subject of our daily and constant

thought. We dwell often upon the love of Jesus Christ the Son.

Who would think of calling himself a Christian who passed a

day without meditating on the love of his Saviour, but how often

have we meditated upon “the love of the Spirit”?
